Description
Welcome to issue 4 of the CME Bulletin in Endocrinology & Diabetes. We have some exciting articles for you.
The Surgical Series by Mr Scott-Coombes continues with the Surgical Management of Hyperthyroidism. His previous article on the Surgical Management of Hyperparathyroidism is supplemented by a review of the imaging of hyperparathyroidism by Dr Sanderson and Dr Kane.
Dr Frances continues the osteoporosis theme with an article on the Investigation and Management of Male osteoporosis. He reminds us that, although osteoporosis occurs predominantly in women, it is also causing a significant morbidity in men.
Dr Levy provides an entertaining and at times provocative report on the 81st Annual Meeting of the American Endocrine Society. This is the undoubted highlight of the year in terms of endocrine meetings. We would encourage readers to attend this meeting if at all possible. It is an excellent forum for presenting research. If you are interested in presenting your work at this meeting you will need to obtain sponsorship from a member of the Endocrine Society.
Dr James provides a timely review on the development and clinical applications of somatostatin analogues. These drugs are playing an increasingly important role in the management of endocrine disease.
Dr Ahlquist considers the problems of hyperprolactinaemia in his refreshingly inimitable way. This is an extremely important subject area in endocrinology.
Dr Dhatariya is a SpR in Endocrinology & Diabetes in South Thames. He is going to be responsible for the Trainee’s Forum in forthcoming issues. He has laid out his views in fairly forthright terms. Please respond to his comments and lets build up a really lively debating forum in the Bulletin.
