Description
Upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage remains a common medical emergency, and continues to carry a significant mortality. However, more minor cases can also consume health care resources unnecessarily. This review of the condition highlights the epidemiology and risk factors, allowing rapid and efficient care of patients, including prompt discharge of non-threatening cases. The range of endoscopic treatments is discussed and the liaison between medical and surgical management is emphasised.
